I wanted James Maddison in the squad as he arguably had a better season than any British midfielder but as Southgate plays a 4-3-3 or 3-5-2 his system lacks place for a conventional no.10.
I think he can be tried in an 8 but there are a couple issues with that. One is the obvious competition in that position with Rice,Jude, Jordan, Phil, Kalvin and even James Ward-Prowse ahead of him in the queue. Secondly, it depends on how he adapts to an 8 as well. Nonetheless, he is knocking on that door consistently with quality performances.
