HIGHLIGHTS | Arsenal vs Leicester City (4-0) | Nobbs, Miedema, Maanum (2)

We extended our lead at the top of Barclays FA Women’s Super League table on Sunday with a dominant 4-0 victory over Leicester City at Meadow Park.

Jonas Eidevall’s side suffered back-to-back cup defeats against Chelsea and Barcelona earlier this week – but there was no lack of confidence here, as we delivered a complete and controlled performance from start to finish.

After a promising display against Barcelona on Thursday night, Jordan Nobbs was trusted to start her first league game of the season and it took her just 22 minutes to open the scoring. Vivianne Miedema broke free down the right wing and cut back inside to tee up Nobbs, who fired a first-time effort into the bottom corner.

Miedema was rewarded for her selflessness shortly after too, as Nikita Parris raced behind Leicester’s high line with a perfectly timed run and squared for the Netherlands international to finish from close range.

Parris made another darting run on the stroke of half-time, but just as she was about to pull away from Jemma Purfield, the Foxes’ defender pulled on Parris’ shirt and was shown a straight red card for the denial of a clear goalscoring opportunity.

We continued to dominate play in the second half, as expected with the visitors down to 10, and Frida Maanum went on to secure all three points with a clinical display off the bench, scoring twice in two minutes.

First she converted Nobbs’ dinked delivery at the near post with a glancing header, before powering home her second with a thumping header from Steph Catley’s stunning back-post cross.

HIGHLIGHTS | Arsenal vs Leicester City (3-3) | U23 | Three goals in stoppage time!

Our under-23s completed a barely believable comeback by scoring three times in injury time to rescue a draw against Leicester on Saturday.

We made a confident start at London Colney, and had the ball in the net after a flowing team move resulted in Mika Biereth firing into the roof of the net – but the goal was flagged for offside.

That was the only action of note in the first half, but after the restart the game burst to life in spectacular fashion.

The Foxes drew first blood when Terell Pennant slotted home just after the hour mark, and soon doubled their advantage when Tawanda Maswanhise curled a fine finish home from the edge of the area.

The away side came close to making it three when Jacob Wakeling dispossessed Zane Monlouis and raced through on goal, but Zak Swanson’s superb last-ditch tackle saved us.

But Leicester did make it three when, with 13 minutes remaining, Ben Nelson’s header crept past Karl Hein at the near post – leaving us three goals down.

The game looked dead and buried – and there was worse to follow as Hein went off injured and, as we had made all three substitutes already, striker Biereth had to go in goal.

Tim Akinola pulled back what looked to be a consolation goal in the first minute of injury time when he poked home at the far post.

But we refused to give up, and when Omari Hutchinson drilled a firm shot into the far corner two minutes later, a dramatic comeback was on the cards.

There was to be one final act in a thrilling game when, seven minutes into stoppage time, Swanson made a powerful run upfield and found Folarin Balogun in the area, and the striker fired in to spark wild celebrations.

What a finish, what a match, what a response.
